The Genbaku Onanies (=The Atomic Masturbations) was one of the most important first-wave punk band coming from Nagoya at the beginning of the 80's. Well, there was also The Star Club but i think they suck so forget them.
"Nuclear Cowboy" is the first LP released by The Genbaku Onnanies in 1985 on the almighty Alchemy Records label (managed by Hijokaidan's leader Jojo). Musically, this is pretty simple mid-tempo punk-rock. It might seems like there's nothing to write home about after a few listens but the songs all have great hooks and will certainly please the amateurs of this period and sound.
Fans of The Stalin should take notice.
But yeah, i would have done just as well without a Ramones cover.
Whatever.
The Genbaku Onanies reformed a few years ago and share the stage with Gauze, Systematic Death and other "legendary japcore bands". "Nuclear Cowboy" is considered a classic punk record in Japan but, strangely enough, it doesn't seem like it has already been uploaded on the internet. So i'm pleased to share it with you for my first post on Female Trouble.
useless trivia :
- the first three records from the Genbaku Onanies have been released on particular dates : april 29th 1984 (Emperor Hirohito's birthday), december 8th 1984 (USA/Japan official war declaration anniversary) and august 8th 1985 (exactly 40 years after Hiroshima nuclear bombing).
-The Genbaku Onanies shared some members with The Star Club.
-Hijokaidan and The Genbaku Onanies played a few shows together under the name Genbakukaidan).
